Transmission
This is the part of the vehicle that connects to the back of the engine offering power from the engine to the wheels. The transmission uses the power created in the engine to keep the wheels spinning and keep the engine within a certain revolutions per minute range.
The different type of transmission are:
- Automatic Transmission (AT)
- Manual Transmission (MT)
- Automated Manual Transmission (AM)
- Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
The transmission allows the gear ratio between the engine and the drive wheels to change as the car speeds up and slows down. You shift gears so the engine can stay below the red line and near the rpm band of its best performance. In an automatic transmission, it not only lubricates the moving parts, but also provides hydraulic pressure and friction to make the internal parts work. Transmission fluid in both manual and automatic transmissions also helps to keep the transmission cool.If you drive manual, most manufacturers will recommend changing your transmission fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. If you have automatic, you can typically boost that range up to 60,000 to 100,000 miles. There’s no harm in changing your fluid early.
